But she’s also been living with a secret, and with the coming of Carnage, Patricia must take a stand — and will have no choice but to confront her demons head-on!
GEEKY GUY COMICS VERDICT:
I haven’t been a follower of the previous story arcs or standalone Scream stories but i do know that she is one of the first female Symbiotes and sharing a host with a unique relationship with Eddie Brock, it seems that Scream was always going to be close related and have a part Absolute Carnage. Unfortunately, for me this first issue of her standalone tie-in series from writer Cullen Bunn and artist Gerardo Sandoval didn’t do anything to draw me in and if i’m honest it was all over the place and failed to capture the characters best parts in favour of connecting her to the larger MCU.
I did however like the idea of an all-female storyline as this can only be good for the wider Absolute Carnage event but the introduction of Patricia’s with absolutely no information or build up felt rushed and forced. Fair enough i know about the characters (some more than others) but the dialogue is only saved by the spooky and dark imagery.
With the release of Absolute Carnage, the Scream title wasn’t a tie in I was really fussed about but when I saw the cover and read about it changed my opinion. So obviously I gave it a go. I didn’t really know anything about Scream and after reading this comic its clear to see she has a kick-ass design with attitude but I wished Marvel had done more with the character as i still feel i don’t know that much. Scream has been given a three part tie in and i’m going to read it but I will be like “meh” instead of ecstatic while doing so.
As a new reader of Scream I didn’t find the introduction comprehensive enough and although it has some fantastic art throughout, for me thats really not enough to save this Absolute Carnage tie-in from being completely forgettable.
For the previous readers I can assume its good to Scream back in the fold but this was not an interesting read. Maybe we’ll actually get a more in-depth look into Patricia’s head with the following two issues, but as of right now, Bunn brought back two forgotten characters in a forgettable fashion.
