The continent of Madaras once promised a new start for settlers, but 200 years after its discovery, the war rages on. Deep within this savage and untamed land, a darkness builds at that must be stopped at all costs. To do so, the Imperials assemble six of its most despicable prisoners-a turncoat, a skin eater, a sorcerer and his bodyguard, a serial killer, and the Devil's Son-the only ones who can stop the end of the new world. They are Hell's Half-Dozen. In their darkest hour, Colonel Travvos seeks out to put a team together to save the empire from ultimate destruction.

I have to say I'm not a massive reader of Indie comics but after this was in my sub as a mistake I decided to give it a casual read. Was I in for a treat or what. If you are still in the post morning stage of GOT and haven't found anything that can fill the void, this is perfect for you. With a perfect mix of dark humour, violence and, what seems to be a great start to a story this is definitely a comic that I will be following for the whole series.

The story takes place within the continuously war-driven continent of Madaras. As with most fantasy stories, there are a bunch of opposing characters, in my opinion there are too many and it becomes tiresome trying to remember them all. The man of the moment and name to remember however is Ash Mahan. Ash hugely disgraces himself by leaving one of his commanding fleet officers for dead on the battlefield as they are attacked by an absolute freak of nature, The Devils Son. It's this act of cowardice that makes him a marked man and what ultimately gets him imprisoned.

Fast forward a few months and in a last-ditch effort to try to turn the tide of war back in their favor, Colonel Travvos recruits Ash to lead a group of prisoners on a secret mission of which the outcome is to hopefully infiltrate enemy territory in a place called The Anvil and win back the land.

For Ash, this mission is his chance to regain his honor that he lost at the beginning of the story. As for the rest of the characters, we’re not really given enough yet to assume what motivations drive them forward. The biggest stand out of the crew and one of which that has already become my favouriteis is an outspoken female skineater named Kaneash. She laughs about ripping off a man’s genitals and she gives off a kind of Harley Quinn meets Arya Stark twisted type of vibe. The part where she takes on 5 guards is especially entertaining.

If the SUICIDE SQUAD and GAME OF THRONES had a love child, this comic would be it!!! The characters are fun, the stories exciting and engaging and the way Jordan has managed to put this unique and awesome twist into it is truly great. The artwork and colour by Rebekah Isaacs and Alex Guimaraes is rich in detail sharp and edgy and fits the story perfectly. It's clear to see they both have an eye for detail.

REAVER #1 is a great comic with enough interest to bring you back for a second helping. With all the different traits of the criminals coming together and teaming up can only lead to much more outlandish and interesting issues in the future.
