Heroes, villains and gods have fallen. Cities have collapsed. The virus threatens to reach below the waves and even to the island of Themyscira. The race to save planet Earth is on! The surviving members of the Justice League have learned the secret to the spread of the virus, but is it already too late to stop it?

For me so far DCeased has been a fun (tad bit gory) book. The setting up of the story was done in the first two issues but within this one we get to see the fate that has bestowed the heroes, villains and gods. If you read the last issue you will know what a tense cliff hanger it was left on, Batman had tuned into a a crazed zombie just about to attack Alfred! With a shotgun in his hand..BANG!!! Did he do what we thought he wouldn’t? Let’s find out shall we.

Here we are at the halfway point of the mini series. I was excited to see how it was going to pan out and I feel that Tom Taylor has done a solid job of clearly making the reader aware of how this is going to happen throughout the issues. I’m enjoying it so far and the way each one seems to tell an emotional story or part of one makes it a pretty tense but enjoyable read. Yet again this tugs at the heart strings as we see Damian (son of Batman) dealing with the news that his father has died. With the tone seemingly set for this issue we then switch to the focal character story for this issue, Clark and how he is going to react to the death of  Bruce, Dick and Tim.

With Alfred at one end and Superman in the other and both perfectly accentuate the overall arc of the story. As fans we get some closure with Batman before we move on to the chaos at hand. Even though the main character focused on throughout this issue is Clark I love the fact that we get to see what happened to Harley Quinn when she ran into the Joker and has to sacrifice her own need for psychological healing of what just happened as she runs in to an awesome – all female – zombie cameo of the  BIRDS OF PREY!

In my opinion Taylor is doing a great job or creating the wider DC Universe so well into this story. I think you will all agree that seeing characters we know and love in their infected state is always going to be awesome.

I’m still so impressed at how DCeased has carried itself off as a serious story within the DC Universe and not just as a zombie joke.

As I mentioned earlier this issue belongs to Clark. We get to delve into his emotional arc and as he tries to move the un-infected to safety is harrowing.  The scenes in The Daily Planet are some of the most heartbreaking, or so I thought that that stage, particularly as Clark describes working with some of those whom he is tossing aside to clear a path for Lois, Jon, Damian and the others.

For me the most heartbreaking part of this comic is when Clark goes home to Smallville to find his parents. Thats all i’m saying, NO SPOILERS HERE!!!

DCeased #3 is another emotional rollercoaster in the series. It showcases the impact of the outbreak on the Justice League and wider DC Universe by bringing in some seriously great cameos. The climatic end will no doubt leave you with a few tears in your eyes.
