Geeky Guy Comic Reviews: Batman Damned #2

Feb 16, 2019

Comic Name: Batman Damned #2
Release Date: 12/12/18

What can I say. This issue picked up from where #1 left off - gritty, bleak and welcoming, which strangely makes you want to be in Gotham as we delve into this mystery. This series is an amazing look at DC’s most rotten city and I have to say THE DARK KNIGHT has definitely risen in these comics!!!

So let’s dive in. Batman is still convinced that the Joker isn’t dead, despite all evidence pointing to the opposite. With Constantine at his side, Batman comes face to face with the consequences of his supposed actions, whilst also battling demons from his past. It’s very clear that Constantine knows much more about what’s going on here than he will ever let Batman know.

While the story continues to be give glimpses into Bruce Wayne’s past along with more cameos from the dark underworld in freshly actualized forms. It’s definitely been worth the wait.

As the issue nears its end, we see a Joker shaped bat signal in the sky- this is a very well thought out nod to Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises. As bullets rain down on the GCPD from atop a nearby building. It would seem that the Joker is still alive, but after a quick fight against Batman we soon see that it’s not the Joker, it’s Harley Quinn in disguise. I was super excited about this cameo!!!! She is so torn up about the Joker’s death that she tempts Batman to kill her. As Batman’s guard drops it allows Harley to inject him with something that slows him down. It’s here the issue becomes more adult, as Harley then unzips her suit and straddles Batman and licks his face. I feel like this may very well be apart of this issue that was reworked and softened by DC Comics.

Geeky Guy Comics Verdict:
Batman Damned #2 is still as dark and open as it was on the first page of issue one but it didn’t have that anxious “can’t wait to read on” moments like the previous issue. There are get detailed parts through, especially one to The Killing Joke so make sure you look out of that! This comics still stands on its own don’t get me wrong and I cannot wait to see how it all ends in the final issue, as I get the feeling that it’ll be a true event

Geeky Guy Comic Reviews: Heroes in Crisis #1-5

Feb 16, 2019

Comic Name: Heroes in Crisis #1,2,3,4,5
Release Date: 2018/19

WHAT A READ!!! So this morning I was planning on reading one of these a day...I can say that didn’t happen! Once I started I couldn’t actually put them down. And I’m so glad I didn’t!!!

The series is based around Sanctuary, an ultra-secret hospital for superheroes who’ve been traumatized by years of crime-fighting and cosmic combat. But something goes seriously wrong when some of our favourites wind up dead. With Harley Quinn and Booster Gold in the frame this villainous act it’s up to the DC Trinity of Superman, Wonder Woman and Batman to investigate. I don’t want to give to much away but all I have to say is that from the first issue I was hooked, right through to issue #5. DC has really produced something worth shouting about with the Heroes in Crisis series and I for one will be at the front of the line when the next issue comes out.
